the back gate of the old campus i live at is great... it's one of my favorite places in china. it's filled with the best food in china, interesting things to look at, everything you need for life, and sweet chinese peng you's (friends)!
whenever i walk down the college filled streets and alleys there's always some kind of action going on, potent smell to catch your attention, loud barber shop techno music, and random children and chickens running around.
china has a way of being super relational- time and to-do lists are not that important and they always seem to have to have time for a good ol' chat. the other weekend i was walking by my friend's food stand and restaurant and the greeted me with a smile and wave and offered me a seat to sit and talk :) mind you, they don't speak English- other than a "hello" and "byebye"... but talking with them in Chinese, hand guestures, and laughs for almost an hour was one of the greatest experiences thus far in china. i'm in no way fluent in Chinese but it's cool to see the progression of my language learning :) please ask that i continue to be faithful in studying the language and building on those friendships!
here's a random video i took in one of my stores that i buy rice and flour from... i'm a little worried for this next generation of internet game addicts!! hehe
