weekend of eastering

happy happy easter everyone!! (fu huo jie kuai le!)

just finished teaching last week about Easter... whew! i'm not the best speaker or explainer about things like this but i hope that he was still able to use me despite my shortcomings!

we talked about the sacred and secular symbols and meanings of easter- made an origami bunny (their first time to do origami!) and i had them write in their journals about what they think easter is about, their questions, and thoughts about it. some had a pretty good understanding of it, others asked great questions, and still others.... maybe weren't listening very well or just plain didn't get it. haha

i'm also pretty impressed with all the different ways they explained "resurrect"...

lives back, relife, reborn, revival, recover...

it's amazing how much national pride they have and want to contribute so much for their country and how they think of easter as only an american thing (i tried to emphasize that people all over the world celebrate it!)- one student wrote:

"easter is the day in honour of J eastering... J was the savior of America. All americans can respect him, although i'm not american, I can respect J and remember him. because he was so great. i hope i can contribute to my country in the future, i hope i can become a useful person for my country liking J. come on!!"

laura and i also had a few students over to celebrate easter and watch a movie about good friday- it was a fairly random group of students and not how we expected it would be... but i hope seeds were planted and they will ask more questions and seek to know truth! here's a few pictures of eastering in china :)

can you find the eggs we hid for the children at the deaf kindergarten? hehe
