gimme a break
gimme a break, break me off a piece of that kit-kat bar! funny how commercial songs are so catchy and memorable. anyways... TGIF. today was the last day of class before the 7 day National Holiday break! i also took the liberty of taking random pictures of my sophomore students (my old freshman students last year) during the 10 minute break period in class... let the break begin!
gladys and sunny... i told them to pretend like they were friends. haha they were confused and said, we are already friends!!?

then i told them to do an ugly scary weird face... they were confused once again and not sure what to do.

alas, mission accomplished... my sophomores are learning quickly how to be strange, just like their teacher. :) (notice girl in the background cutting her split ends... just another random thing students do during the break!)

meanwhile agnes is hard at work and studying/doing last minute hw for other classes during the break.

...and swanky steven is watching a movie on his ipad...!?!? kids these days. haha

cindy sporting her fashion cell phone case, it's the year of the rabbit here!

and poor gritty, as tired as ever and has an amazingly clutterful desk... bless his heart.. i think he's ready for a break!

i told them at the end of class that their homework during the holiday is to:
-have fun (they don't have enough fun during the week!)
-sleep a lot (they don't sleep enough during the week!)
-eat good food
-call your mom and tell her you love her
-give someone a hug
and
-go outside while it's not freezing... uh.. er.. or at least snowing just yet.
(this was the good news portion of their class after having a pop vocab quiz earlier hehehe..)

tehehe...
i couldn't help but share this name card with all of you of one of my new freshman students. they had to write their english name and chinese name (i blotted it out for privacy purposes), a picture of themselves, something they want to tell me, and a question for me.. in this case, the question was on the back of the card.

"patience is my middle name..."
my dad use to say that to us growing up. to this day i'm not sure if it really is his "middle name" in chinese or just a saying he would say to remind us to be patient. haha
anyways. i'm not naturally a patient person. in fact, i like things fast and i don't like to wait. i like to drive fast, eat my food fast, do things in a fast manner... but the father is teaching me lots about patience.
for example, the elevator in our building. the other twin tower building right next to us caught on fire (a crazy lady lit her apartment on fire, but that's another blog post) so they needed to take one of our elevators so that they will have one... so we went from 2 to 1 elevator for a 28 floor high rise that houses lots and lots of foreign students and teachers. sometimes the wait is soooo long, i wonder what would happen in a real emergency like giving birth or having a heart attack, let's hope that doesn't happen to anyone anytime soon.
back to the elevator, it's teaching me patience... and everyone else in the building too.. lots of awkward silences waiting for it and timing your clock just right to miss the rush hour. they even put a sign in the lobby area that says something about "patience" and a chinese proverb too i think.
in a word, i'm once again reminded that patience is a fruit of the spirit, i need more of the spirit in my life and to wait on him and His timing for ALL things... even the elevator in my apartment.
another crowded elevator waiting experience...

gordon and the chinese proverb patience sign they posted haha
