Bats & More!

Tonight was my first time looking up at dusk and noticing bats EVERYWHERE in the sky... I guess I never bother looking up or I just assumed they were small birds.. but nope- clearly they are bats. Lots of them... small bats, large bats, just bats. I really also like how it's been over 9 months of living here and I just now notice this small detail of nature. haha.. Just felt like sharing that ;)

Hmm..Less than 20 days til' I leave my home in China to go to Beijing and then back to the states- yikes!

I guess you can say there's definitely mixed feelings about going back to the US of A... excited, unsure, and sad pretty much sums it up. hahaha..

So, I obviously excited to see people that I haven't seen in 10 months, especially in person and not on skype (family and friends), I'm excited to understand a language again and be able to read and speak fluently with others, excited to eat ALL kinds of food (oh how we take that so much for granted in America!!), excited to dry my clothes in a dryer, excited to DRIVE (except, I think might have forgotten how to drive following American laws haha), excited to swap stories with everyone about what's he's done this past year... and the list goes on. I'm excited. :)

I'm unsure about lots of things... unsure about how I'm going to understand American way of life aka how to be an "American" again, I'm unsure how I'm going to survive paying more than 1 dollar for any meal, I'm unsure about lots of things... BUT I know I can take confidence and hope knowing that HE is sure and remains the same in both China and America!

I'm sad.. I think it's a pre-grieving period or something where I'm noticing things will NOT be the same next year... sure I'm coming back to the same university and going to see my students again... but I won't be with the same people- together in China- anymore after this month :( Team has been a BIG part of this past year... sharing good, bad, hard, and hilarious times together with these 6 people have made these past 10 months 10 times better. :) Trying not to be too sad about it now- I just don't want it to hit me too hard when I'm back home and be grieving a lot then... so yea.. I guess it's a good thing that I'm sad because it shows that this year has been really really good and I've been truly blessed.

Thanks for keeping posted with my inconsistent seldom blogs!!

dragon boat

hello everyone!

sorry for the delay in the blog makings- apparently my computers program to allow me to use the site has been disabled again :( hopefully it'll start working again so i can update more but until now i'll be using a teammate's computer to fill you in on the 411 here!

summer? yep, that's right.. last week we finished giving our final exams on a very short notice.. apparently our university likes to do things and make changes at the last minute. and then this past weekend was a 4-day "dragon boat festival" holiday... so since last wednesday i've been a teacher with no classes, lesson plans, students, and not much to do!

you might be asking.. why don't you come back to the states? that's a great question. we don't have debriefing until the end of june in beijing- and many other schools are still teaching until then.. except for us. haha.. soooo.. it's been rather interesting. luckily some of my students are still around so we've been able to hang out and have a class party for the end of the year.. consisting of random fingerfoods (chinese potluck style), uno, mahjong, jenga, waterballoons, and more.. haha it was quite a fun-filled day with them :) (since i'm not using my own laptop- i'll try and post more pictures on facebook)...

want to hear a slightly awkward and funny story? while playing waterballoons and chasing each other with them... my student jacky had the last one. so since it was really hot and nobody dared to throw a waterballoon at me, i offered jacky a free shot. he could throw his last one at me about 25-30 feet away and i won't move. well.. with that he threw the water balloon straight....at my crotch! oh dear. hahahaha all the students were laughing hysterically, as i was laughing too... did a student just really throw that there!?! it was perfect and if people didn't know the story, they would have thought i had a MAJOR accident for sure. haha.. so anyways.. i'm walking awkwardly with a wet spot between my thighs... and later another student tells me what she thought about jacky's shot/aim..."it was very.. (thinking of the right word to use for a while)... accurate!" hahaha.... she didn't think what she said was funny but i was pretty much dying of laughter. oh it was a glorious day!

until then... some things i have planned for the next few weeks here:
-learning more chinese
-visiting places/people for last time
-roller skating
-cooking and hanging out more with students
-potentially meeting with frances more one on one and helping her along in her walk :) (you can be thinking of that)
-perhaps giving guitar lessons to my 12 yr old friend hannah
-climbing a wall?

any other ideas?? hehe sorry a lot of words and no pictures on this post- but thanks for tuning in!!
