sawa-dee-kaaaahhhh :)

one of the perks about being asian is that you blend in... in all asian countries! :) some thai people that i talked to today were CERTAIN that i was thai, i think it was my fresh hawaiian tan that led them on haha (if you're not asian, you should have a try so you know what i mean hehe)

so it's my 3rd year in thailand and i feel like a "regular" here.. pretty familiar with the area, the good places to eat, how much things should cost, and the weather feels just right :) i got about 9 more days left til conference starts and you might be wondering.. what on earth are you going to do for 9 days!?

well, so far- my friend Lauren and I have been eating a LOT of good thai food, reading some good books, exploring the city (found a random old goodwill, music store, and a cheap bicycle rental place), playing nerts, journaling, running into old friends, napping, and enjoying thailand sunshine :)

over the past week i've transitioned through 4 different countries and cultures (hawaii to japan to beijing to thailand) and i'm still blurbing out the wrong language and phrases haha.. but here's some things i've been learning about thai culture:

-if your meal is over 300 (even 1,000) baht, you should give a 20 baht tip
-drive on the left side of the road
-bow your head and put hands together to be greet and be polite
-speak slowly and softly and saw "kahhhh" often :)
-eat with a fork in the left hand and a spoon in the right
-mopeds and scooters are as common as bikes are in china
-foreigners that you see here are either backpackers with dreadlocks, asian tourists, or people that look like they work overseas (if you know what i mean haha)
-thai people are the super friendly
-beautiful flowers, trees, arts & craftsmanship here!
-the king's picture is everywhere and he still reminds me of jack bristow from alias
-women's clothes in fashionable stores is a bit like china, surprisingly.
-geckos and mosquitoes are your new best friends here

at a local outdoor thrift store... a little ghetto but fun to find :)

pretty flowers!
