It's a Small World, Happy Birthday, an Ice Cream Truck, and a Street Sweeper (a fun Chinese version of a street sweeper that i found although i'm talking about the big electronic truck ones)... who would ever think the 3 could be a part of daily life in china??
for the past year, especially the past few weeks, i've heard this ice-cream-truck-like music to the tunes of "it's a small world" and "happy birthday" at LEAST once a day (sometimes 3x's a day). it wouldn't be so bad if it was actually an ice cream truck that i can buy ice cream from, but instead it comes from the street sweeper that sweeps the streets multiple times a day and sometimes it seems like it stays parked for a good 20 mins on the street outside my 20th floor apartment haha... well, actually i usually don't laugh. the first 2.6x's i heard the music it was entertaining and funny but now it's quite annoying. With such a distinct noise beaming in ears at random hours of the day- 5am, 2pm, and 8pm- it's hard to focus... tune it out.. and live! haha
the other day the father spoke to me through this nuisance during my quiet time and this is what i wrote that i want to share with you:
"...the street sweeper is once again playing 'it's a small world'. things like this probably doesn't even bother Chinese people AT ALL, but it affects me SO much. Help me not to let little things like this stop me from praising you but remind me that it IS a small world and you are a BIG BIG Father!! (and it somebody's birthday out there in the world too!)"
i'll admit that it's still a struggle to hear the music and be thankful for a million other things instead of focusing on one minor thing. i hope that one day i can be like the Chinese and not be bothered by it but if i happen to hear it, it'll be like a small reminder of how Big my Father is.
