a memorable memory...

tonight in my "special" class i had them share some childhood memories including their most memorable teacher. one student said she remembers her teacher, miss wang, from her elementary school because she would cook in class.

when she said this, i pictured a home economics teacher teaching students to cook in class... right?

wrong! haha she went on to explain that she had a stove and all the things for cooking in the classroom! i asked her if the teacher cooked food for them and she said "no, because she would start cooking before class got out... and by the time it was finished, class was already over!... but it always smelled so good!" haha how sad, a teacher starting to cook her own lunch in the middle of class in front of the students and not even sharing her food! lol this would never fly in america- but how does it fly in china you might ask?

the answer is simple: 关系 Guānxì (gwan-shee)= relationships.
the principle of the school and the teacher were good friends... so the teacher can do whatever she wants because in china it's all about relationships and who you know. :)
