hmm.. very interesting china... very interesting.

i thought i'd switch it up a bit and post "interesting" things that i've observed the past few weeks since coming back. chinese people and things never cease to amaze me and make me say.. "wow..." or "very interesting" or.. "hmm..??" haha.. here's just a few highlights that i can think of ;)

1. couple shirts... usually it's a boyfriend and girlfriend that wears these shirts that we call "couple shirts" to identify them as a couple.. but every now and then you'll find good guy friends wearing matching shirts- and it's precious. *tear*

2. long (pinky) nail... not sure why they do it but usually you will find some boys/men having an extremely longer pinky nail in comparison to the rest. i asked my student if it's for scratching? picking nose? hahaha.. but i think it's mainly for fashion, a cool style/trend that's been in the chinese culture for a while. very very... interesting. hehe

3. umbrella + chinese fashion... let me just say i don't fit in as a "woman" very well in china. i normally don't carry an umbrella to keep my skin from being white and i don't wear very "fashionable" lacey, frilly, girly clothes like they do in china... girls are just a lot more fem here... which isn't a bad thing but i blend in better with the boys here with my basketball shorts and t-shirts. haha...

4. teacher's day! sept 10th was teacher's day in china and apparently it's a day to honor teachers with huge fruit baskets, gigantic teddy bears, large cross stich work, bouquets of flowers.. last year i never celebrated "teachers" day since we were still in the states for training but this year i got several e-mails (in chinese from students that i had to google translate to read it haha), text messages, little cards, a slightly creepy cow bobble head, and one carnation from several students and classes... although it wasn't as MUCH as some other teachers.. i still felt loved and appreciate their thoughts. in return i told them "happy teachers day" because a teacher isn't a teacher without students! :) it was an interesting "holiday"... personally, a day off from teaching would be a nice token of appreciation hehe...

Sometimes my mom will grow out her pinky nail... but for no good reason. Maybe it's to pick her nose too... haha.
